Trinity County Judge Mark Evans is in his 16^th year as County Judge. Elected County Judge in 1994, he took office on January 1, 1995. He is the son and grandson of Trinity County Sheriffs’: father-Lynn Evans (1951-1965, 1972-1981), mother-Peggy Evans (1981-1982), and grandfather-Joe Scott Evans (1930-1933). The Evans family was one of Trinity County’s earliest settlers and can trace their presence in Trinity County back to the 1830’s. Judge Evans is a graduate of Groveton High School and graduated from Sam Houston University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. Prior to his election as County Judge, he worked 9 years for the State Land Commissioners Office.

Judge Evans currently serves as Chairman of the Region H Water Planning Group, is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Forest Counties and Schools Coalition and the Texas County Judges Education Committee. He was recently appointed to serve on the Task Force on Uniform County Subdivision Regulations, created by HB 2275. In 2003 he was awarded the Silver Bucket for distinguished service to East Texas by the Deep East Texas Development Association.

Judge Evans is Past President of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas, the North and East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association, the Deep East Texas County Judges and Commissioners Association, the Deep East Texas Development Association and former Chairman of the Texas Association of Counties Workers Compensation Board of Trustees. He also served two terms as a member of the Texas Association of Counties Board of Directors. Judge Evans was appointed by the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Dennis Hastert to serve on the Forest Counties Payments Committee, an Advisory Committee to Congress.  He was elected chairman of the Committee by the members and chaired the Committee for the 6 years of the Committee’s Charter.
